Chisankho Watch hails MEC,other stakeholders on election

Chisankho Watch has expressed satisfaction with the management of the elections, saying so far there has been no serious incident.

Speaking during a press briefing yesterday, Chisankho Watch chairperson Bishop Gilford Matonga commended MEC for ensuring that polling stations opened on time and resolved some issues with speed to ensure that people were able to vote.

He said: “Chisankho Watch’s observation has revealed that the opening and set-up across the country have occurred in good time, with very few incidents of concern.

“The elections have also been generally peaceful, with security personnel present in all the polling stations.”

The organisation also commended political parties for ensuring the presence of monitors, and security personnel that guaranteed order in polling stations.

In an interview, Democratic Progressive Party vice-president (Centre) Alfred Gangata, who voted at Kankodola Centre in Lilongwe City Mtsiliza-Mtandire Constituency, expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout and the way polling staff managed the voting process.

He said he was also impressed with the presence of monitors, adding that the process was efficient that one did not have to spend much time being assisted.

“The turnout is communicating something. It shows people are serious about this election,” said Gangata, who is also the DPP candidate for the Lilongwe City Mtsiliza-Mtandire Constituency.
